I am having difficulty extracting the audio for coversion from an avi movie (K19-The Widowmaker -Divx downloaded from internet)..

I tried extracting as an ac3 in the standard version of Virtualdub since I could not simply extract as wav, and later tried it in VirtualDub_AC3 - and then bringing into Headache to convert to an mp2 but in both cases Headache gives me the following error:

"Bad sycword at frame 110666! The AC3 stream is probaly corrupt"

Next I tried downloading AVI2WAV and extracting the audio in there.. but when I bring it into headache it once again gives me the same error:

"Bad sycword at frame 110666! The AC3 stream is probaly corrupt"

The orginal file plays fine on my computer, but I just cant seem to succeed in extracting the audio.

Any suggestions on how I can get around this problem?

  2. use your favourite search engine to find ac3fix.exe. This is a command line utility. run it like this:

    ac3fix.exe inputfile.ac3 outputfile.ac3.

This will fix the errors in your ac3 file and allow you to convert it to wav.

Thanks Bugster. I found it easily enough in search results (Lycos.com), but most of the links seem to lead to dead ends.. However, I finally found and downloaded it from some foriegn lanquage (to me) website.

But I haven't a clue how to use it. When I click on the executable file all I get is a quick flash of a dos window before it dissapears.
The zip file did include 4 text files and read me's, but none of them contained any form of instructions.

I searched theses forums for ac3fix looking for instructions and found several post which referenced it (most of them yours assisting other users), but it is very vague; just saying things like "get the ac3 onto your dvd using ac3fix" or "run the audio thru ac3fix first"

So, I conclude that either my download was flawed, or that ac3fix is used as an add on to tmpge perhaps?? - if so, how do I utilize it? I cant seem to find any kind of tutorial and I dont know how to begin.

My final output will be going to vcd.

You need to open a DOS box (what do you mean your OS is too advanced to run a DOS prompt? ) and use the instrux that bugster gave you!

If you cannot run DOS, beg a Win98 startup disc from someone with an "inferior" operating system. 8) 8)
