yes. you can use avi_io or vdub for "segmented" capturing.

    AVI_IO:
    ---------
    * in avi_io, "file/capturing settinges" and under "File settings..."
.. put a check mark [x] assign sessionnumbers and set to 0
.. set to 1024 as your "Maximum filezie in MB" but I've sometimes used
lower, like 500MB's or less, depending on my hd size as of capturing.
    * start under all that is a box, usually starts with c:\
    .. enter a filename like 1.avi
.. this way, when it segments, your clips will look like below
    * when you are finished w/ your analog capturing, you will see
    a bunch of avi's like 1_0.00, 1_0.01, 1_0.02

    VDUB:
    --------
    * in vdub, its a little more confusing, but..
    .. "capture/capture drives..."
.. enter "threshold" as 1000MB or less
    .. enter "path" ie, d:\
    .. leave everything lese alone.
    * "file/set capture file" and name it something like, 1215.avi
    .. this will give your segmented files names, 1215.00, 1215.01, 1215.02 ..
    * begin your capture

Then, forget about Windows 98's 4gig limitations. I do, when I'm
    analog capturing.

As for DV w/ firewire.. the only app I know that will segment, is
scLive. And, it does it automatically - no need for you to setup
anything. Only problem is scLive insert 5 logo frames ever few
seconds, until you decide to pay for it. I think it's $33 dollars or
something like that. I use DVIO.exe and stop every 18 minutes or
4gig or during commercials - usually during commercials I'll stop.

But, currently, there are no freeware software for DV that has segmented
    DV transfers.
