  1. I ahve been trying to capture my Hi8 to SVCD, my final aim is to transfer my Hi8 to DVD. Viewing my Hi8 from my camera on TV I feel the quality is quite good. Should I be able to transfer this to DVD with little loss of quality? My question arises as I have seen the results of making a SVCD without having to cature the video. I was amazed at the quality achieved. Thus when I captured my Hi8 to SVCD I was hoping for a similar, that is not much, degree of degradation. Not so, video quality can only be described as if looking through a piece of gauze, detail loss was really unacceptable. SVCD quality would seem to be quite good, referring back to DVD ripped to SVCD, so I can only put the loss of quality down to capture definition.
I am wondering if I am chaseing something not achievable with my setup or if there is something wrong woth how my system is configured.

Any ideas as to what sort of bit rate/definition I should be able to get or a subjective idea most welcome.

    Hi,

I own an 8mm camcorder and an AIW 128. I now capture video with another card, but I found that capturing an AVI with the AIW little and then ecoding offline (ie with Ligos or TMPEG) yeilds excelllent results. I also do a lot of live cam video captures. I capture with UYUV or HUFFY sice there's no compressionI compared direct MPEG captures to the resukts achieved using the previous procedures. There's no comparison! If you have the tools, try it out for yourself.
