Now that I updated my ATI ALL IN WONDER 128 drivers, I can no longer use Virtual Dub as it doesn't recognize WDM. What software are you using to capture with? I tried Video Capturix 2001 but the trial version was only good to see that the card could still capture. Any freeware/shareware alternatives like Virtual Dub? I do hope the author of Virtual Dub gets around to having it select either VFW or WDM for capturing. That would be better in the long run...

  2. Try the "vfw wrapper" to allow vdub to work with your AIW.

I DLed the VFWWDM wrapper and installed it directly into the same directory as Virtual Dub but Virtual Dub cannot see it at all. I get a Panic error saying Vdub can't find a capture device. Video Capturix allows me to select the driver from a pull down list. The author of Virtual Dub should do likewise...

This program is not recommended for Win98SE (which is what I have). What happens when you use it? I assume because of it's Win NT/2000/XP base that it wants NTFS so it can't spool AVI's larger than 4 Gig each? So, what's another alternative that can make successive 4 Gig files when capturing and uses WDM?

  6. Oldfart, extract the files in wrapper.zip to a temp directory, right-click on VFWWDM.INF, and click "install." Reboot and try it again....

It's true, iuVCR is bad for Windows 98. There is something in the iuVCR code that causes segmented files to lose sync, no matter what method you try and append them together. Avisynth, virtualdub, etc. all frameserve to TMPGEnc the end audio will be out of sync with the video. If you have a better OS like Win2K or XP, file size isn't the issue. So you can use iuVCR, it's damn good when you only need to save video to a single file.

As for WDM capture software, I suggest if you're on Windows 98 you try WinDVR. It's easily the best capture software going, and it will segment the MPG files for you at 4GB per file. You can even capture high quality in MPG format to make a 2 hour movie fit under 4GB, so there's no segment.

  8. Hey folks,
this OT from original post, bust since there is recomendation for iuvcr here, maybe I can get some help with it....
It seems I cannot get a captyure with sound using iuvcr (VirtualDub gives me the same problem, PowerVcr II works, WinDVR works).
    Video input : S-Video
    Audio input: line-in
Sound card has line-in enabled. When running in preview mode, the sond is there. After I try to record something - nada.

    Appreciate your help,

  9. I definitely advise FlyCap (or FlyDS if you work with a bt8x8).

Try it (the 1st uses the vfwwdm wrapper and it is Freeware; the 2nd, wdm,
it is shareware and overcomes iuvcr in what concerns a/v sinc issues).

    Just visit w3.asvzzz.narod.ru
    I' m a very, very satisfied client.

  10. I have a problem with IUVCR where the "video" tab disappears if I do any of the following:

    Install Ulead Video Studio
    Install EO Video
Run IUVCR through Remote Desktop Connection.

If I do any of this, the "video" tab dissapears and never comes back. This is a problem because the "video" tab is where all the crossbar controls are. So then I can't turn on the audio crossbar and the whole damn thing is useless. The only way to make it work is to do a System Restore.

Right now it's broken and I lost my System Restore data (for some huge mpegs) so I effectively have no audio capture support.

I suspect that this has something to do with this whole VFW/WDM thing. I also suspect that this has to do with a simple registry setting or something.
Is there some utility out there which will allow me to take full control of my crossbars and registry settings, regardless of what capture software I have installed?

  11. I have a little patch for iuVCR that will reset it back to it's factry default. You'll get your video tab back then, but have to set up the preferences once more.

Mail me and I'll send it to you.
entirely TOO much time on my hands

  12. The only one that keeps audio and video in sync correctly for post MPEG processing is Virtual VCR. Use the "adjust audio" option, not the others like Master stream, for keeping sync.

I too use virtualvcr. I started using it and never looked back. I do use virtualdub for filters and other editing work though too. I use "sync using stream offset."

Same thing happens with me. It's really odd.
