I am attempting my first captures.
Here is my system.
AMD Athlon 1.4 gig.
512 meg ram
60 gig hard drive
GeForce 3 video card....Asus V8200 with video in.
My source is an S-VHS vcr with s-video out.
The picture on the monitor seems to be grainy.
I tried a couple of tapes.....one being an S-VHS tape (about laser disc quality) and it has a grainy look to it on the screen. I also tried a couple of VHS tapes of the Simpsons and although they look good on my tv the Simpsons tapes come out exceptionally grainy on my monitor.
You can see a sample snapshot here:
http://members.home.net/thehutt/grainy.html
This snapshot was taken with the Asus live video software and it is no better with Ulead Video Studio.
VirtualDub also produced the same results.
Any help please?
Thanks,
-Andy

Make sure you're capturing in YUY2 or UYVY.
It also looks like the image may be getting captured at 320x240 and then resized to 640x480 using some horrible interlpolation algorithm. Or perhaps some crazy filter is being applied to the video. Make sure you're using VFW drivers for your card, assuming they exist. Also, you may have difficulting capturing if you're using Windows 2000 because I've heard that ASUS's driver are terrible for that OS.
