  1. I downloaded a supposed SVCD file (.m2v.mpeg) from IRC and Media Player couldn't play it.
I searched on this site for help on how to play .m2v and found that WinDVD would work.
I installed it and it plays the file just fine.
Now even Media Player plays it so obviously WinDVD installed the correct CODEC.
Question: When I un-install the demo of WinDVD will Media Player 7 still be able to play these files?

no, windvd will uninstall the mpeg 2 codec

however, it's a wild guess, but if someone knows where windvd stores the dll, you could copy it to a disk, then uninstall windvd, then put the dll back.

it works when ur tryin to get real player 7 to play real media 8 and you can't auto-update.

program is finding the right dll and they have weird names

  3. I installed the WInDVD demo then uninstalled immediately. It left the codec and now Media Player plays SVCDs.

  4. I agree with kitty.
That is my experience, too. It leaves the codec behind...
