It doesn't do anything really special. It's just a dirt cheap half decent capture card if used with the proper drivers. You most certainly can get better, but that will come at a price (signal quality wise). Most of the time, you'll find that your source is more of a limitation than the capture card (DSS, DVB, VHS...). Unless you want to do "on the fly" encoding to mpeg1/2, which I don't do. If you're into ripping say, laserdiscs or something like that, maybe that a better card can help. As far as DVD goes, you might as well rip it with a DVD drive instead and keep 100% quality. So unless you have a source worth more, and you're willing to spend a good amount on another card...

I disagree, I don't think you can find a better analog Capture card. I've seen top dollar and low dollar cards and BT8X8 based cards have always had superior quality. You can even get BT8X8 based capture cards that include Progressive inputs.

The cards based on BT8X8 are many years in the market and that helps with the sofware/ drivers.
There are better cards out there. -
Yeah, there are better cards.......but noe in the less than $100 pricerange.
If you don't mind the wait for software encoding......this chipset is awesome!!
