  1. am using mgi videowave4 to capture video+audio using avi as format. the capture is limited only to 10+ minutes because of the 4 gb limit, i suppose. What can I do to override the problem and extend my capture capability. Do I need a new capture software, how about card?

    Please help.

If you are hitting 4GB in only 10 mins you must be

A: Capturing at some insanely high resolution
    or
B: Capturing with no compression whatsoever.

Try reducing your resolution and/or use a codec (like indeo or mpeg-2 or divx (etc etc)

  3. I Hit 2GB in about 14 minutes using Indeo Raw 1.3, and that's only capturing at 384*288 (From VHS tape). Using Codec's generally lowers the quality along with the size, even at max quality.

  4. Check out Huffyuv codec in the Tools section - compression without loss. If files are still too big, try PICVideo MJPEG codec which although lossy, gives good quality and compression which is adjustable.

  5. VirtualDub and AVI_IO can capture to a series of seamlessly segmented AVIs, overcoming any file size limits. (Links are in the Tools section.)
