  1. from the change log I see that this version of Nero has a new feature:

new SVCD feature for encoding excatly to CD size

Anyone try this yet or can tell me exactly how it works. Is this the famous fit movie to 1 cd feature we all want???

  2. Where is this feature ? i've not seen it, and I sorta doubt you can fit an SVCD movie into a single CD and still having it as a standard, i'm just skeptic, no matter how much I like Nero!

I've contacted nero , they stated that the svcd plugin would be released by the end of august . As far as I know it hasn't happened yet ,
I have been looking for the release and keeping tabs on their site on a daily basis .

I just downloaded the newest Nero, 5.5.4.0...crazy numbering they have. I need to get a Key...maybe I will pay for it, They sure as hell deserver the money.

Anyway, the SVCD option is right on the New->SVCD screen. Its under Encoding Bitrate. You'll know it when you see it. Would this make it a XVCD?

  5. Theoretically I think it's possible to fit a 120 minute movie on a CD-R disc as an XVCD (I have yet to try it out myself). As long as the system rate is kept low (approx. 650 kbps of video data, as opposed to VCD video quality at 1150). Or sacrifice some audio kbps for better video. That's if you don't mind sacrificing quality to put everything in one disc.

Do you guys burn XVCD MPGs as a VCD 2.0 compliant file? Somehow it works for me. I don't see how it wouldn't work on other DVD players at all that supports VCD. I haven't seen a single VCD compatible DVD player that doesn't support XVCD at all on the DVD Players list from this site (some have question marks by them that haven't been tested for XVCD compatability).

I also wonder what the limit is for fitting an incredible amount of minutes on a disc with a very low A/V bitrate.

  6. I wonder if they are using my method of fitting a movie, after all, it is MPEG2, so it can't be XVCD since that uses MPEG1, although in the user defined they are using pretty low bitrates.

  7. Well, I got the 120 minutes on a disc. My Apex just overlapsed 99:59 right back to 00:00 and continued the last 20 minutes. There was a couple of picture freezes at times but other times they played fine (????). I couldn't "fool" Nero to accept the MPEG as a VCD 2.0 MPEG since I only know how to do it if it's larger than 1150 kbps.

After I captured the video, the file turned out to be a bit bigger than I expected so I compressed the audio to 128 kbps instead of 224. The file worked fine on my PC, but after I burned it onto disc as a VCD, my DVD player wouldn't play the sound... but the picture was there. I'm still doing more extensive testing!

(I should be getting some sleep right about now, lol!)

  8. Well it would be nice. This would really be good as far as qaulity and eliminate the need for TMPGEnc.
