Hi,
I can't seem to get Maestro to do exactly what I want. I have poured over the following tutoria a few times:
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvdr-guides.htm
But I must be missing something. All I want to do is create a title screen with a big fat button in the middle (that says PLAY) for my DVD rips . I have a bitmap picture already with a play button in it. All the assests load fine (.bmp, .m2v, .ac3) and I get the title setup with my bitmap nicely.
My problem is when I actually play the DVD on my stand alone player the movie starts right away. I want the title screen to come up first and stop until PLAY is pressed.
To summarize all I want to do in Maestro is have a Title screen start up FIRST when my DVD's are played from my Stand alone player. Then when I press PLAY on the remote the movie starts. Thanks
rhuala

set first play to menu (click on project title on the left screen) , right click on target and select menu (yours will be listed)
do the same for "title menu" right below
..
fancy stuff ->
open you menu layout and go to playback control ... >
set end state to "still" or let it time out and play the movie...
there is a lot more things you can do with commands -- but this will get you running -
did you make a button (with or with out layers) on yoru menu layout ? make sure it is pointing to your movie (draw a box around button) right click on button and select target , you can do this form the project window also

crap it didn't work I thought it did but nada. I though the key was in setting up command sequences...
All I have set up is on the left:
Title
..Movies
....Movie1
..Menus
....Menu1
..Command Sequences
Nothing set up under comand sequences. Under menu I have a bitmap pulled over the white dashed area. I did create the button by dragging it over a rect area. When I do exactly as u say:
set first play to menu (click on project title on the left screen) , right click on target and select menu (yours will be listed)
2. Right click on target, which I assume you mean is my button. Then select menu. Two options appear:
Menu1: no button
Menu1: Play
So I select Play. I dont see why I left clicked on the project title first that did nothing for me. Then
do the same for "title menu" right below
I think I'm missing something here. As for
set end state to "still" or let it time out and play the movie...

In the tutorial it says to double click on 'Command Sequences' then set 'mainmenu' to First play'. Problem is when I double click on 'Command Sequences' nothing happens. If I try to create a new command sequence none of them look like a first play item, they all look verrry different.

I can get the movie to play fine from the button press I just can't force the title to appear before the movie starts playing...

in the left top window right click on the top most name (name of your project) .. in the window to the right of that a menu of commands will appear - if you dont see it ... min. all the windows in that right window ..
top most box in that menu says : first play , next to that (brown box) under "target" right click in that area and pick menu (yours) ..
the manual is good to refer to . -
What you're looking for is the CONNECTIONS window, not command sequences. It's one of the menu items. Command sequences are for creating program logic that you can make the player do-like IF/THEN branching, or looping a random number of times, or keeping count of a view. That is for the very advanced. "Connections" has a table with all the possible events and their available targets, which allows you to connect the sequences and menus together. There are other ways (Right-Click), but that is the best thorough way to check you layout.
