I want to know if there is a way to hook up my computer to my tv so that I don't have to convert my Divx files to vcd and lose quality and have part of the screen cut off. How could I do this?

evening goteraper,
Well, for what you want is a Graphics Card w/ TV out feature. Most ATI
cards support this, including my ATIRFP (rage fury pro) but it's not what
you would expect in a TV out card. It wont look the same. It wont look
like what you would see on your computer monitor. You'll be dissapointed
at best. BUT, at least you CAN watch your CLIPS, be it divX or VCD or
whtaever you want
IMO, you are better off trying to fiture out how to get the best quality from
a divX conversion to VCD/SVCD and burning it to a CDR and playing it
through your DVD player, than trying it out on your TV out card (when you
DO end up getting one) Again, that's just my opinion, based on my
experience.
I don't know if they have improved on the TV out part. Well, you'll see what I
mean. Anyways, I can't explain it. You'll have to see it for yourlself to
understand it. At first, you'll probably like it, but sonner or later, based on
what I know from experience, you'll end up not being satisfied. But, if
they have improved it, ie, designed the TV out feature to be able to turn
itself INTO a TV, than, their you have it. Got for it!! But, to my knowledge,
I have not seen such a card w/ TRUE tv ability. But, give it a try on a few
low priced ones' to get an idea, ie of one is, again, my $79 ATIRFP AGP
version.
Perhaps someone else here has had better experience or a better card
w/ TRUE tv out vewing ability, ie like watching TV, not your PC monitor's
actual window.
Good luck anyways, and have a nice day.

Two choices:
1. A scan converter: this little box converts the VGA signals from your PC to RGB, SVHS or Composite signals that your TV can Display, not always the best quality, you get what you pay for with these....
2. TV output from many of todays graphics cards, ATI, Nvidia, Matrox... Mixed results, probably btter than a scan converter...

I'm using my ASUS Geforce2 with S-Video tv-out, which produces a pretty decent picture. Combined with the shapness filters of my SONY WEGA I get a much sharper and smooth picture, than that of my monitor.
Some Hercules cards should have an even better tv-chip.
Use this brilliant software (TV-Tool) to get a picture on your monitor and TV at the same time (also read more about the different tv-chips): www.tvtool.de

I can play Divx on my TV but my problem is how could you send Dolby Digital signal from your computer to Audio Amp? I got many Divx movies with DD sound (AC3).
I want to enjoy DD sound with Divx. Anyone knows DD signal-output capable sound card? My audio can accept both coaxial and optical digital signal. -
Buy this dvd player -KiSS DVD Player DP-450
it plays DVD, MP3, Divx 4 & Divx5, VCD, Svcd

I would suggest that you purchase either a dedicated TV in-out card like the Ati TV Wonder or TV-Wonder VE. These will give you pretty darn decent TV-out quality as well as a built-in TV tuner that will allow you to capture video from almost any external source, all for around 50-70 bucks (depending on the model) on www.pricewatch.com
Although, depending on the video card you have, you may already have a TV-out, what video card do you have?
If your vid card is getting out of date, you may wish to just upgrade to a new video card, as the guy above suggested. All of the new cards coming out have pretty darn good TV-out quality, but I think the ATi cards still have to best. You can get a Radeon 8500 with a built in TV-out now for about $150 on pricewatch. This will give you some of the best TV-output quality on the market as well as giving you pretty darn good game performance as well.

I have an ATI card with a S-video output. By me, it looks far better than any *VCD, the only reason I'll encode SVCDs is so the kids can put them in the DVD player, but quality wise, I find DivX/TV-out combination looks a whole lot better. Some people will tell you completely different, of course. It's the VCD/DivX rant thing it seems... Oh well.

i have a ATI 8500 with video out. I think i've figured how to hook it up to my TV, but i was wondering if i use the svideo cable if i get sound with it. Or if not, how do i get sound to come out of the tv. thanks.

You have to hook up the sound from your sound card to the TV as well as the S-video cable. It depends on the type of audio inputs your TV has, but Radio Shack or any other local electronics parts store should have the proper adapters and cables if you can tell them the connectors used on both your soundcard and the TV. Usually, you want to get an adapter that will run out of the Stereo headphone adapter-type connection of the soundcard to an RCA-type connection on the TV or Stereo system, using an RCA-type stereo patch cable. The adapter and cable shouldn't cost more that 15-20 bucks, depending on how far your TV is from your computer, longer cable can be expensive.
Hope this helps,
