I've captured 2 hours of video with no problems, and suddenly started getting dropped frames. This happened as my hard drive started getting about 90% + full - could this be the issue, or might the issue be with the tape itself?
I'm using Pinnacle 8, Pentium 4, 512 ram, 40gb hard drive. Camera is the elura 40mc
Thanks much.

I have heard of people running into problems when their drive reaches 80% capacity. Also are you capturing to your C: drive or a separate dedicated A/V hard drive? You should be using the later. Other things that can cause dropped frames include being attached to a network (i.e., LAN or DSL). Detach yourself from it before you capture or play your video back. Also try a defrag and check the disc for errors and shut all background processes off (including those icons in your sys tray).

As your hard drive fills up, it takes more and more time for the computer to find empty space on the drive, which may result in slower data transfer rate, which in turn may result in dropped frames.
You can try dfragmenting your drive, that might solve it, but as Rick mentioned, try not to go above 80% on capture or get a bigger drive.
Good Luck,
