Nero wasn't designed to burn cue/bin files. You can burn the bin by choosing burn image, all files, load your bin. Burn mode 2, nero will adjust to conform to the file type, but it still doesn't burn correctly 100% of the time. As stated in the read me files included with VCD Imager, you should use CDRDAO.
This program (CDRDAO) uses CUE/BIN files to burn. Another program that uses CUE/BIN is CDRWIN. CDRWIN is not free, untill you enter the correct unlock code, it will only burn at 1x.
Any time your looking for files/programs try this site:
    http://www.google.com
    Here's a search for CDRWIN http://www.google.com/search?q=cdrwin
    And one for CDRDAO http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=CDRDAO.
A few minutes "googling" can turn up anything you need.

    @ AP Enterprises

What settings do you want to change? I use Nero to burn the cue/bin files (open Nero and choose burn image - then choose the cue file) and in 5.5.1.8, 2.3 and 2.4 it works fine.

  3. I think I figured it out. Thanks for all the help!

(Now the only thing I'm concerned about is if Nero will burn my SVCD correctly using the cue/bin files)

So are you saying that Nero won't burn the cue/bin correctly 100% of the time? That's kinda weird... It should either always be 100% or always be 0%. Not 50%.

BTW, I have Nero 5.5.0.3 OEM version, and the only bug I found is the SVCD NTSC/PAL bug.

Don't know why you have that kind of problem.
I use nothing but Nero to burn my MPEG-2 file on SVCD and FF and RW is no problem at all.
BTW, I use TMPGEnc to encode AVI into MPEG-2 file for SVCD.
How do you generate your MPEG-2 file?

  5. You can use daemon-tool to create a fake CD-ROM drive from the bin/cue files and use Nero with CD-copy "on the fly" from the faked drive.

That's what i do cause i had pb burning cue/bin with nero.

Plus you can test ( a bit) the SVCD from the fake drive with windvd3.0 before actually burning it.

  8. Why DEMUX and MUX ? Itīs a necessary step ?
I only do a capture , encode and burn . What I leaving behind ?

    35 min NTSC .avi file; 480 x 480; 23.976fps
    -
    convert to SVCD compliant MPEG2 in TMPGEnc 12h; 480 x 480; 29.97fps
    -
    demux MPEG2 in TMPGEnc 12h
    -
    mux in bbMPEG
    -
    create bin/cue file in VCDimagerGUI
    -
open .cue file in Nero (5.5.0.3)
    -
    Burn?

    Will it work?

  9. I read somewhere that demuxing in TMPGEnc (or any program that will demux for you) and muxing again in bbMPEG will make the SVCD be able to ff/rw without losing sync. I wonder if this is true, or if I am just wasting my time...

  10. Oh yeah and one more thing, muxing in bbMPEG is very complicated. There are a lot of advanced controls that I don't know what they do, and I don't want to change them but I want to at least figure out what they do!

It gives me a choice for muxing, what kind of Stream Type should I choose:

    MPEG1
    VCD 1.0
    VCD 2.0
    MPEG2
    SVCD
    DVD

If I choose SVCD (that's what I'm making) then the mux log says that it may not play back correctly. But if I choose MPEG2 it muxes fine with no errors. What's up?

Choose whichever one you are making, in this case svcd. That message is common and most of time can just be ignored. Most mpeg2 encoders do not fully respect the max bitrate value you set, so even with a max of 2.5mbits you will still see peaks above 3mbits. This is especially evident in TMPGenc. These peaks, however, are extremely short and usually dont cause problems. If you do notice sync problems during playback then lower the mux rate. I have heard that people have had luck fixing sync problems just by setting the mux rate to 0.

The reason you do not get the msg when setting it to mpeg2 is because an mpeg2 stream need not conform to any standard since it will not necessarily be played back on any form of hardware player.

Sounds like a good thread so far people.

Well here is a problem for you experts.

My SVCD's have always played in my DVD player. Except the part when I ff/rw. They WILL ff/rw, but after that they lose audio video sync. No problem, just hit pause and play again. They will sync them back up. But how annoying! Any idea why i lose video/audio sync only when I ff/rw or switch tracks?

Here's the other problem. How come I don't get a nice little time thingy durring playback? I'd like to know how far along in the movie I am. With my homemade SVCD's I only get the track number.

Tackle that one for why don't ya.

kreg: There are a couple methods which a dvd player can use to maintain sync while playing a svcd. It can simply look at how long the track is before playing it, this information is contained in the file header of the track. Or it can look at the svcd can offsets and use them as guides as it plays. This is by far the best method for most dvd players but different methods work better for different players.

Now if you are using TMPGenc or possibly even cinema craft encoder (not sure about cce) then the svcd scan offsets are not added and the sequence headers are not alligned thus not allowing your dvd player to use that method. Now like I said for some dvd players this is ideal but for most its not. What ends up happening is that the movie will be in sync at first but progressively get worse, and another thing is that it will often lose sync when you ff or rw. My guess is that you are encoding in TMPGenc and burning in nero. The scan offsets are not present and your dvd player cant handle it. If this is the case then you should DEFINITELY demux your mpg in TMPGenc after encoding and then multiplex it in bbmpeg. This will add the necessary svcd scan offsets and allign the sequence headers.

If you are already muxing in bbmpeg and still get this problem then uncheck "add svcd scan offsets" and uncheck "allign sequence headers." If neither of these works then its either a player specific problem or its some other problem with your encoding method that you need to isolate...ie: sometimes pulldown.exe causes sync problems with I-Author multiplexor...etc..

Oh and about the time display...I'm not sure but this also might be solved with proper muxing, (bbmpeg.)

    Sounds good,

I'll let you know of my progress.

Yes I use TMPGenc 12a. Nero's latest 5524 to burn. I doubt frameserving from virtual dub is causing any probs.

Thank you for the detail and clear explanation

Is there a tool or method to check/prove an mpeg/svcd if it is 110% true svcd?

Sorry, but no improvement. Actually going through the demux by tmpeg and mux with bbmpeg made it worse. They sounded like chipmunks for about 15 seconds, but the video played at regular rate. Then when the audio stablized, the video and audio were no where near eachother being way out of sync. >: ( Same problem as before, just takes longer for the audio to stablize. Yes, pressing puase then play fixed it. In both caes that can fix the problem, but only when the audio is stablized does it work. Maybe I shouldn't do 2pass VBR, but using someting more standard? Maybe CBR?

    Time stamp still not shown.

Can I use mpgxmps instead of the bbMPEG to mux a video that will be use by VCDimagerGUI.

I have used TMPGEnc and I-author and don't seem to have a problem with my DVD player. I would like to try VCDimagerGUI. So I'm trying to understand the steps. I read in this thread that using bbMPEG was a little hard to setup.

kreg: if you want to check that your mpg is totally svcd compliant then use philips svcd verifier. Just a word of warning though, it might be really disheartening to see just how non-compliant your mpgs are...the format is really unforgiving.

In svcds there is nothing non-standard about 2-pass vbr or any other form of vbr as opposed to cbr. You really should not be having these problems but honestly sometimes its just the dvd player. Did you follow the bbmpeg muxing guide on this site? Did you try both muxing it with add "svcd scan offsets" and "allign sequence headers" and muxing it with both those turned off? I have been able to get the philips verifier to totally accept my mpgs muxed in bbmpeg as being svcd compliant, so I know that the program is designed to spec. Were you using the latest version? Some of the earler versions do have sync problems. Oh, and no I dont see how frameserving from vdub could cause any problems at all with compliance.

trashcan: bbmpeg is a multiplexor, amoung other things, and mpgxmps is just a converter. It requires an already multiplexed mpg and just converts it to mps for use with I-Author. So no you cannot use this in place of bbmpeg, and I doubt you could even load this into vcdimager. bbmpeg is extremely easy to setup, it literally takes 1 sec to apply the correct settings. Just look in the faq on this page for a guide on using bbmpeg.

heh, well I got the verifier. Too bad you can't actually use it. I hate windows software. You have to pay for everything. I wish I could just do all this in Linux. Does any here actually use any chat software? That is what needs to be done, a place where you can actually discuss in realtime to get someting done. If anyone is interested, i have a registered channel on irc.openprojects. I'd love to get a great and effective disccusion going thre.
