I have been capturing TV shows and am using Vdub to remove the commercials. Then I use "save as" to do a "copy stream" to another avi file.
However the start and end of the commercial dont seldom happen on a key frame and I cannot get a neat cut. Is there any way I can insert a key frame into the stream before I do the cut?

avisynth is perfect for what you want to do. use the trim command to cut out all the comercials.check out the guides for cut/join clips. I use it for half hour TV shows and it works perfect, one segment just fades right into the next. 30min TV shows only wind up being 21and a half min anyway

If you cap to HuffYUV or some flavor of MJPEG, every frame is a key frame , so it's very easy to edit. If you cap to DiVX, where you have one key frame every 100 or so, I don't know about it. Never have to deal with it.

It looks like your options are to capture with more keyframes in the first place, use a format like Huffy or an MJPEG and edit when every frame is a key frame, use AVISynth as mentioned above or re-encode it with more key frames (I think this will work).
