I have a Philips USB external 406cdrw, and am wondering if Taiyo Yuden cdrs blue/silver are good quality and compatible? I have seen them for 28 bucks per 100 ,80 min, 48x.
BTW, what do the colors mean? Blue, silver, green? WHich color has the best quality?
Thx

Taiyo-Yuden media is generally considered to be of excellent quality. As for compatibility in set-top players, it's probably good but you should check to make sure that your player doesn't have a problem with it. $28/100 actually sounds a little high, though, you can usually find good media for less when places like CompUSA or Best Buy have sales and rebates. Lately I've seen Fuji blanks on sale for around $5/50 several times, and I think those are made by Taiyo Yuden.
The color of a CD-R is based on the type of reflective material and dye used. Some current dyes are almost transparent to visible light (CDs are read with an infrared laser). Some of the fancy multicolored CD-Rs just have a color coating that's transparent to the infrared laser and makes them look "cool".
The short answer: with a few exceptions, the color of the CD means nothing. Manufacturers can make CDs any color they want. You can find more information and links to information by searching the forums, this has been discussed several times before.
