I would like to share my videos with friends who have slow machines. I have PAL footage, but my friends are in NTSC land.
I've been thinking about DivX, but so far I've run into a slew of problems.
The machine I'm testing on is a 300 MHz with lots of RAM. It's been running DivX before, and I figure if it works on that one, I should be fine.
DivX 5.0.2 doesn't run smoothly of course. But 3.11 crashes on my newer machine, and doesn't even show up in my list of codecs if I've got Kristal installed.
Question, should I abandon DivX and go for VCD instead? Problem is, they might try to run those disks on a standalone DVD player and then blame me when it doesn't work...

if you want it to play on a standalone DVD player, i'd suggest you use MPEG/VCD

That's just the point, they WON'T be able to play them on anything connected to a TV!
PAL doesn't play on NTSC TV's!
