  1. I have power dvd xp 4.0 deluxe, and was thinking about buying some divx movies. How do u play them on it? Can you just insert the movie and hit play, do you open up the avi file, or have to install a codec?
    Thanks

  2. Well, unless you are going to create or convert your own DivX movies, I would suggest downloading the free DivX 5.02 package available here:

    www.divx.com

After that, you should be able to watch any DivX movie with PowerDVD

But you don't have to BUY DivX movies, just download them

If you have problems playing other types of files such as OGM files (Ogg media files) then take a look at the post a little bit down the list entitled:
"ALL CODECS YOULL EVER NEED FOR XP SP1 FOR DIVX AND MPEG"

    Good Luck,

    Prospero

EDIT: Almost all DivX movies come in AVI form. An AVI is just an Audio Video Interleave, that is, it is a video stream created from video created with almost any codec interleaved with an audio stream created using almost any codec. I have gotten alot of DivX AVIs off of Kazaa and you should be able to play any of them after following the advice above, no changes necessary. Just have to watch out for fake files, although they are pretty rare in my experience.

  4. Files with .AVI extension are DIVX movies.

On Kazaa they are at least, as any other avi codec
is no near the compression you get with Divx(mpeg4)
