    Any ideas on how to convert an AVI with compressed audio to MPG(VCD)?

    TMPGE wont even open them...

    Are there any other programs that can do it?

    In TMPG go to environmental settings -> Vfapi plug-in and move DirectShow File Reader to priority 1 or 2. You should be able to open your avi file then.
