    you have two options...

The first is to use multi chanel mpeg2 audio....problem is that a lot of decoders don't know what to do with it. Not sure what encodes this.

The second is to encode it to Dolby Surround. You will get Left, Right, Center and Surround.....not 5.1 but better than stereo. To encode this use BB Tools and/or azid (have a look on the left or at doom9.org).

  3. Only a few DVD standalone players can handle DD5.1 on cdr/cdrw.

The 1st series Hitekker 700 is one and the Conia M530 is another that will play back 5.1 surround - but not as a SVCD - you have to make a miniDVD, cDVD or an iso VOB.

If you also cut the bitrate of the video, you can enjoy what is pretty much the same quality of picture as an SVCD but with true Dolby Digital 5.1 surround. Later, you can even export these files direct to DVD-R with minimum processing.

    Method 1

You can use rempeg to reduce the size and bitrate of your vob video and then
simply swap over the video onto the original .ac3 tracks. Burn as an
iso or UDF on a cdr and all should work fine.

    Method 2

Using DVD2SVCD / CCE, simply setup to create a CVD. Check CCE
advanced settings for DVD and closed GOP. Check BBmpeg
settings for DVD. Check do not process audio. Make sure
you rip only the 5.1 soundtrack using stream mode under smartripper
or dvd decrypter. Burn as an ISO or a UDF on a cdr and all should
    work fine.

I don't know anyone who has been successful with DTS on a cdr or has
    used phillips' MPEG 5.1 either!
