I've converted my home movies to SVCD format 480x576 mpeg2 files, and when I plug my PC into a TV they play back fine.

So I thought I'd burn them to CD-RW and watch them on my DVD player.

In the past I've downloaded SVCD movies and watched them on my dvd player without a problem. The player only likes VCD disks, and so the workaround was to change the mpeg file header to vcd using tmpgenc and then burn in vcd format using Nero (turning off standard compliance).

I tried this approach with the home movies. They play ok, but when the camera pans from side to side there is a noticeable wobble on vertical surfaces. As if the decoder is lagging behind slightly.

I've never seen this problem before, and as I mentioned the movies play back fine from pc to tv.

Can anyone offer me some advice on what to try next?

    Thanks

  2. I'm not sure if I understand what you mean by a wobble on vertical sufaces, but from what I've seen and what I've read, it sounds like you might mean an interlace problem. Try setting your source material to Interlace in tmpgenc (I had a movie that looked horrible when panned, and de-interlacing did nothing, but this setting cleaned it right up). Or, try reversing the field order. I've heard of that solving similar problems.
