Hello, I need advice on the following areas:
I am trying to re-encode a svcd movie, so that their are no black borders at the top or bottom, using tmpgenc. I did a 'sample' using the 'clip frame', and waited to see the results. Clip frame 'stretches' i believe the video, as compared to resizing in the correct proportion. The movie was indeed 'larger'(on my tv dvd screen) but the audio was out of sync, and the video was not the same quality as the source file. Also, the file was much smaller, as common sense says it should be bigger. How can i make the video full screen, with all the original quality, even though the file will be bigger, and then, possibly fit it one one disk. For example, this file/movie is 724 mb's svcd, part 1. I am willing to try other programs if you think they may be better at what I am tring to do!
If you reply, try to walk me through this step by step, as I am not a video encoding expert like some of you here!
Thank you for all of your help!

  2. I suggest you just be happy with the original SVCD movie. MPEG2 is a lossy compression format so any re-encoding is going to degrade the quality... you will never get the same quality as the source.

For your clip frame being out of proportion, well of course it's going to be if you only clip the black bars. To keep the proper aspect ratio you are also going to have to clip off part of the left and right side of the movie (pan and scan), until you have the proper 4:3 ratio. Oh course you're going to lose part of the picture in each frame.

Like I said you're much better off just being happy with the original SVCD.

Under the advanced videos tab - make sure you choose KEEP ASPECT RATIO (2) - I believe that's the one that'll expand the video to fill the screen while keeping the aspect ratios in synch - it's the top choice when you hit the drop down box - I am unsure if it has the 2 subscript, but whatever one is the choice closest to the top of the KEEP ASPECT RATIOS will be cool for you.

Clipping has no effect on the aspect ratio. Experiment with (for example) a small sample of a DivX and you will see that this is true. 8)

  5. If you really wanna re-encode SVCD or mpeg2 files. I would suggest you frame serve from DVD2avi to TMPGEnc, just another choice.
