  1. Hi

I need to buy a new graphics card (my old GeFroce MX2 400 died on me) and I was wonderign if anyone has any advice! I admit to not being a games player, so I;m not too interested in all the gamign features on cards, the main thing is the ability to play movies at decent quality via TV-Out (via the video overlay, not just what is on the screen)! I have to admit, it seems, from what I hear, that ATI has better quality output than GeForce, is this true? The card just needs to eb able to play any NON mpeg files to the TV (mpeg files are already played at good quality by my hollywood plus card)! I am also running Win XP,. so the cards drivers need to eb able to eaisly support TV OUT on Win XP!

Thank you for all your help!

all the newest geforce and ati cards play both video and even mpeg2 /dvd extremly well .. in fact you could drop the hollywood card completly as all it does is blur the picture a bit on the pc at this point ..

  3. It died?! What happened to it?

Did it overheat and capacitors fell off? Did you overclock it? Or it just went bad?

  4. I am very pleased with my ATI Radeon VE aka Radeon 7000. It's not a great gaming card, but great for multimedia. When I run the MediaPlayer (or any other player) in a small window then the TV screen will show the movie in full screen size at the same time. No need for changing resolutions, refresh rate or whatsoever.

  5. Wod, thank you all for your help, and such quick replies! I think I may get a All In WOnder Radeon 7500 (only £30-40 so not bad)! The geforce seems to just over heat and die on me, nothign fell off, it;s just dea d(so I assumed it overheated) and I didn;t overclock it either!

Thanks again for all your help!

  6. I've got a radeon 64 sdram which you can find all over the net for $50-60. It might not be top of the line but it handles tv out very well. A friend of mine has a Geforce 3 with tv out . The tvout works great but it will not handle tv and monitor at the same time it is one or the other. That makes it extremely difficult to navigate in windows when it is on a low resolution tv across the room. This could have possible been a driver problem.

  7. Hmm, think it is a driver problem, as I was able to view both at the same time with my geforce 2 (unless that is vy it went bang, he he)!

Hmm, think I may get the 7500 (althoguh soemthign tells me it is a mis labeled 7200, possibly)!

    thanks again

  13. I got my card, it turned out to be a standard 7200 with vivo! Anyway, I didn;t get a driver disk with it, so I got the drivers from the web, and loaded them up, everythigj seems to work okay-ish! Only on the TVOUT I can;t get it to output just the overlay! the full screen will go out, and the overlay will show up in the right place on the TV screen, butt here is no option to just put the overlay on (you can not select primary dispay or anythign within the Displays section of the display setup either)! Was wondering if anyone knew how to get this to work propely?
