  2. As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

First thing you should do is go over to ULead's site and download the upgrade to DVD Workshop. The latest release (v1.2) has an option on the burning menus to specifically prevent DVD Workshop from converting already-compliant files. (Otherwise, DVDWS tries to convert your files to match the template you selected - i.e. when you click "burn disc" from the "Finish" menu, and pick a bit rate for the DVD from the resulting pop-out menu, DVDWS 1.0 tries to convert any files that it doesn't think will match that bit rate. DVDWS 1.2 has an option to stop it from doing this, and just accept any DVD-compliant file regardless of the selected project's bit rate setting.)

  5. Where can I download the 1.2 update from??
I currently have the demo version of v1.0 and I just wanted to install the 1.2 update so I dont have to download the complete demo again...
Whenever I go onto the site it asks if i am a registered user and obviously im not as I have only the demo....

Can anyone email me the 1.2 upgrade patch or point me in any direction on whereelse to download it

    Many thanks

  6. For anyone that may be interested, Ulead DVD Workshop is an
excelent piece of work!! In contrast to Dazzle DVD Compleate, its
    a better program.

Side note: DVDit! is not very good at all, Id suggest avoiding it
    at all cost IMHO.

    Hope that helps, Good luck!

You can actually sneak by the "are you a registered user" thing; you don't have to provide them a serial number in order to download the patch. (In fact, you can provide totally bogus info in all of the "required fields" of their form if you want to - which I did, even though I have a bought-and-paid-for legit copy of DVDWS, mostly because I have a general objection to nosy web forms and don't think it's any of their damn business. )

That being said - unfortunately, the 1.2 patch only works on the "real" DVDWS, not the demo version. Supposedly, a demo version of the 1.2 is due "real soon now."

In the meantime, another thing you might try is changing temporary directories; DVDWS 1.0 may be running out of temporary disc space during its conversion attempt, which could cause the "failed to convert" error. Another cause of this error, if you're running under Windows 98 (or NT/2000/XP if you're still using the FAT filesystem instead of NTFS), is if the resulting .ISO image file DVDWS is trying to create exceeds the 4Gb file-size limit.

(You could also acquire a copy of the full DVD Workshop, of course. Granted, it's a somewhat pricey bit of software, but...)

  8. Update on DWS: Ive had a chance to use it more extensivly.
Its excelent! I had a problem with the DVD plugin with
MSP so I was hesitant to get DWS, but Im glad I did.

Functions perfectly, generates industry standard VOBs
    and plays back perfect.

I just finished building a DVD with a three page menu, links
to each menu, and motion boxes for different chapters I
specified in the software (each little box is a 10 second
movie of the start of the chapter).

Its extreamly easy to link, to specify background image
and audio (music..), specify chapters is just a click,
placing items on the menu, position them, border them,
select highlight effect, place text on the menu with a
large number of effect and any TTF you have installed,
    etc.. etc.. etc..

The list goes on... It has about a 10 minute learning curve
which I liked very much. After about 3 sessions, you can
*master* the software and get wildly creative! Great product!

    Hope that helps...

BTW, the 1.2 trial is available on Ulead's site....downloaded it this morning ~40MB. You will have to uninstall 1.0 first though.
