Lo all,
my problem is that I got several VCD's/SVCD'S which I can't playback on my computer.

Whenever I try to, I do get large green squares/blocks blocking the picture (the movie is just covered/concealed by those blocks) and cracky sound, sometimes oversteered movie sound, other times just white noise like. I also tried to put up a screenshot, but everytime I tried to capture the screen i only captured a blank black screen, though I was able to see things flickering.

I am using Windows 2000 SP2. All of the VCD's/SVCD's have been burnt with a Plextor PX-W2410TA using common CD-R'S ( which otherwise seem to work fine for all kinds of use ) employing NERO Burning ROM. All the mpg sources we're working fine before I burnt them ( I watched all of them before archiving them). And I am sure that i saw most of them even another time after archiving them. So the source, i repeat that, should be fine, although i didn't encode it. I don't think that i have installed any weird codecs on my system which block the playback ( I can play any standard mpg file without any problems ).

Additionally i tried several players like Real One, WMP 6.4, WMP 7.1, PowerDVD XP. I tried both viewing the vcd just like it is.. and moving it from the cd and playing it back or renaming it to mpg and playing back ( as far as i know there are no differences between the dat files on a cd and the mpg files on your hd ).

I have also tried converting ( whatever specifically that is in this case ) those dat's to mpeg's using some tool I came across called VCD Gear. That gave me some error msg about corrupt dat file, which frankly i could not understand, because there we're no errors during the burning process of any of these cd's as far as nero does tell me.

Also, i have checked this board for similar problems about the playback of *VCD's : I stumbled over these entries of which some i think are referring to identical problems while others might be related or not, though none of them holds a solution for my problem. But you can check them yourselves.
