  1. Looking for advice. I want to put several short MPG files onto one CD, and share them with my friends. What I'd like to do is have a menu, so when they pop the cd into their pc, a menu pops up and they click on the movie clip they want to watch, ideally in fullscreen. Can someone show me how to do this, or recommend a (free) program for doing this? These would be on Windows machine. Thanks!

    Use for instance VCDwizard.
Create your fancy menu-image (may be a bmp, gif, tga, jpg or ppm) at a resolution which is a multiple of 2 (best of 4), e.g. best result will be retrieved when you take the same resolution as your tv (if it's pal, create an image of 704x576, is it ntsc then use 704x480).

Then use VCDwizard to create the STILL - this STILL is the actual menu.
VCDwizard creates a MPeG of it.

As new project, you must select either VCD2.0 or SVCD1.0 (depends at which target all streams were encoded). You cannot mix VCD and SVCD on 1 CD !

Feed this STILL-MPeG to the mpeg-list (first page of VCDwizard) and add all mpeg-streams to it too.
Then use the "next"-button to go to the PBC-page (3the page).
Create a Selection-List for the menu (change the WAIT value to be '2', the LOOP value must be set to 'Repeat Forever' and the JUMP must be set to 'Delayed' - all other values must be left as is) - use the PBC-menu to change the values.
Add all your other mpg-streams to the PBC-list (either as Selection- or as Playlist) and add those into the SelectionList of the Menu-item (when empty - saying '0 Selections').

You must use Drag-'n-Drop to do most things in VCDwizard.
Then continue to the next (and last) page in which you do the cue/bin creation.

This cue/bin can be written by cdrDao and/or Nero.

You need to have VCDimager already installed at your system
links for VCDimager and VCDwizard are available in the Tools-section of this site, or at labdv.com

    Success...

  4. I am not looking to make a VCD, this will be on a pc under Windows. It will be a collection of selectable MPG clips, with (hopefully) an auto-running selection menu.

  5. Create a web page with links to the files. Create an autorun.inf file that launches the web page when the CD is inserted.

  6. A HTML file is probably the easiest way for PC.

Other options are Macromedia Flash or Macromedia Director (not free).
