    Hi.

I'm getting crackling sounds on the audio side when I capture video.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Or how I can prevent it?

The video capture is working well.

    What I'm doing:
Capturing short movie clips from VHS.

    How I'm capturing:
VHS --> Analog to Digital Converter --> Firewire Card (1394)

    My System:
Analog to Digital Converter: Canopus ADVC-100
    RAM: 448
HARD DRIVE SPACE: 20 GB (1.5 GB available)
    Processor: 700 Mghz
    O/S: Windows 98 (SE)
    Software: Vegas Video 3.0

Let me know if anyone needs more info.
    Thanks
    Jenny

When my captured video has crackling noise in it, I load the file into Gold Wave. If the audio is off the chart in places, then I select noise reduction. This usually corrects the problem.

I have read here it is sometimes caused by recording volumes being set too high, but as a newbie, I do not know for sure.

    Hi.

    I use Windows 98 (SE).
I do know which volumes you are talking about. I thought you may have been referring something else.

    Thanks for the help!

Maybe your system is too slow for capturing.Normally I get these sort of noise, when the related frame is bad.

  8. my video capture looks good but still seems to get the crackeling ...but it dosent happen all the time ,i captured 3 video tapes over the weekend and two out of the three have the crackeling and the last one i did dosent...i havent messed w/ the record volume .......also i capture with a hauppage 880 card and dont have any trouble watching live tv or recording off cable, its just when i try to tape transfer ...iknow its not the vcr cause i've tryed 3 diffrent ones.. could thier be a bad spot in the tape that makes it do this???

  9. Somnetime it has to do with the chipset and soundcard (VIA+SBLive is known for that kind of problems).

There is a VIA PCI latency patch at viahardware.com, or alternatively, capturing audio at 22kHz should get rid of most of the problems (MMC should convert it to 44.1kHz automatically)

I usually get crackling noises when I have videotape tracking errors. Try adjusting manual tracking on the vcr. EP tapes are notorious for this. Also if you playback a tape recorded on a different one, tracking problems can show up in the sound.

  11. ah!!! the picture was so good I didn't think about the tracking of the sound...the two tapes with the buzz have been taped over before the other was a brand new tape, I didn't know if this would be a problem tho....
