    Hi,
I know I should be able to burn a 700 Mb+ VCD on a 800 Mb CDR but it seems VCDEasy won't let me do it. I also know it comes from the difference between mode 1/mode 2 burning. But how can I set up VCDEasy so that it can burn up to 800 Mb on a 800 Mb CDR ?

You don't. Atleast not explicitly; VCDEasy knows what to do.

Elaborate on that; is it VCDEasy that gives you an error, or CDRDAO (the external included burning app)? If it's an error from CDRDAO, then my guess is your burner is not fully supported. Create the image with VCDEasy and burn it with CDRWin. If it's VCDEasy that gives you the error, then your MPG is probably not compliant in one way or the other. Run the MPG through the MPEG Scan function in VCDEasy and see if there are any errors.

  3. does your burner support overburn? make sure before you do it, otherwise it could get damaged

Well, everything goes fine with VCDEasy (including the CDRDAO app even if my ASPI driver is not valid), it's just that when the mpg file is over 650 Mb, the size of the file is shown in red in the VCDEasy window, indicating that you've broke the barrier. Therefore, I assumed I could not burn over that limit, but I never tried. But my CD burner is a Plexwriter 12/10/32A and it should support overburn, I will try today. I'll let you know if it works.

I've burnt lots of VCD's when the size is in Red with VCD Easy.
And my burner is an old 2x no name I brought at Radio Shack.

If it is not over the capacity of your Drive/Disc it will work no problem.

  6. I believe you can configure it for overburning in the Settings, CDRDAO. If not, I would suggest just using VCDEasy to create a bin/cue to your hard drive and then use Nero to burn to your CD-R. In Nero select File, Preferences, and click the Expert Features tab. Check the "Enable overburn at DAO" and set the minutes to something like 83. REMEMBER, that you will need to select DAO as your Write Methond (Located on the Burn tab). I have burned 840+ mg SVCD onto 80 min CD-Rs and had no issues. However, if you burn beyond 835 +mg you will get a error message after the burning is done. Ignore it. It will still work . Good Luck!

Thanks to everyone who replied to this post. I've just tried burning a 754 Mb mpg file with VCDEasy and succeded. All that was needed was to enable overburn in the setup ... And to give it a try !! Thanks again.

Hi there, I just wanted to add that you can burn longer movies onto CDR if you adjust the bitrate. I have managed to get a 1hr 30min movie ripped from DVD to an 80min CDR (PAL) format.

I used a freeware bitrate calculator and adjusted the settings in TMPGenc to allow the movie to sit comfortably on the CDR. I then used Nero Express to burn the VCD.

The color is a nice idea, but it doesn't mean anything because the thresholds for changing colors don't match the raw capacity of a CD-R.
