  1. Hi there,
I'm willing to make my first steps into video editing, that's why I want to buy a capture card. The reason why I want it is to record from my analog VCR and then record to VCDs and (in the future) to DVD. After hours of search, I have narrowed my choices down to 5. Can you please tell me your opinion on which capture card to buy ?

    The 5 cards are :

    1) ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 32 MB DDR
    2) Matrox Marvel G400 or G450
    3) Dazzle DVC II
    4) ATI All-In-Wonder 128
    5) ASUS AGP V7700 GeForce2 GTS Deluxe

I am leaning more towards 1 and 3.

I know that all cards, apart from Dazzle, are also graphic cards. The only reason I want to buy the card is for video capturing purposes. I don't care much about the performance as a graphic card.

    QUESTIONS :

    1) Is Dazzle DVC II better at capturing than the other all-in-one solutions ?

    2) What is the best solution for me (<$300)

I have a PIII 450 MHz overclocked to 506 MHz, two hard disks (SCSI 20 GB - EIDE 10 GB (old one)), TEAC CD-R 8x, 160 MB RAM, Gigabyte BX mobo, SB Live ! and Win ME, but I'm planning on upgrading (?) to Win 2000.

Thx in advance for your precious help
    John

I am also looking for card. I am checking the Hauppauge WinTVGO because it is low cost and has a TV tuner and apparently can do full res (PAL 700+ x 500+), but I am still trying to confirm this in this forum. I checked the Matrox G450 eTV and it too can do full PAL res (with real time software MPEG encoding with a 600+ Mhz processor) but it is about 4 times the WinTVGO price. Most of the cards are based on the BT878 chip (see http://www.vcdhelp.com\Comparison.htm) and the extra cost seems to be for software which may not be used since there is Vdub etc.
