  1. I am going to burn an actual DVD (not VCD or SVCD) using DV camera footage. The captured DV footage from my video camera is interlaced. Should I deinterlace this before burning the DVD or just leave it in interlaced format? Does it make any difference in how it will play back on a stand alone DVD player? What if I also want to be able to play the DVD back on a computer using WinDVD?

  2. The general rule with DV is to keep the format as similar to the original as possible. DV is particularly sensitive to alterations to its frame rate or interlace structure.

If you're not sure, though, see if you can create a "test" disc that contains samples recorded using each method you're considering. This is really the only way to establish what works best for your source material, production methods, and personal taste.
