  1. Hello all,
I am using DVDit ver 2.1 PE. When creating an MPEG1 or MPEG2 VCD or DVD it loads the video files ok but when you go to burn, it give the message 'Each GOP header must be preceded by a sequence header'. The MPEG files were captured from VHS tape (PAL) using Pinnacle Studio 7 Deluxe and Blue Box capture card and work fine in everything else. I am trying to burn them onto a DVD using a Pioneer AO4 burner. I have a basic understanding of GOP frames, key frames etc, but no idea what is actually wrong or how to fix it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  2. If I understand all this stuff correctly, I believe the DVD spec requires every GOP to have its own header, whereas the general mpeg spec does not need this. Unfortunatley it looks like the mpeg encoder you use during capture is mpeg compliant but NOT DVD compliant. The only solution I can think of is to re-encode (with TmpGenc I would suggest) with the correct settings.

If you are lucky someone else will read this and know of an app that can fix your mpegs for you, but not me, sorry.

  3. Thanks for the info. To re-encode it in Tmpgenc, what should I re-encode it to or as if the mpeg is the format/size etc that I want it to be. Can I leave it the same format and just change some settings to fix the GOP header problem and if so, what settings. I am not familiar enough with Tmpgenc to fully understand what you mean or where to start. Sorry, I am having a dumb day!

    Thanks

  4. I would suggest using the template that most closley matches your source files wrt resolution and framerate and start from there. It will take a while depending on the speed of your machine but I can't think of any other way of doing it.

In the future you might be better capping to avi format and the encode to mpeg with Tmpgenc later, disk space permitting of course!
