The past two times I've attempted to burn a CD-R in Nero the 'Burn Progress' bar gets to around 31% and the drive stops burning. The strange thing is no error messages come up and the progress timer just continues smoothly. What's going on?

The same have happened to me. I have wasted like 10 CDRs or more. It happened to me with data cds only at first. Then it happened with VCDs also. But with mp3s to audio cd it works great no problems at all. I never noticed this bug in Nero cuz I mostly burn mp3s in audio cds but lately I have been trying to burn data and vcds and it is a pain to use Nero. Sometimes it works some times it don’t. Now I use cdrwin for vcds .bin .cue files and EZCD5.0 Platinum for data. To bad I had to install two additional burning programs to make the work of a small program like Nero. Any one knows how to solve that Nero problem?

What is it here, there is no problem with Nero, and there is no "bug" if you feed bad data to it, you can expect it to lockup. If your burner was "Burn proof" Nero would sit there trying forever more to read the bad data, if it did manage to get past the error, it would continue to burn.
Mpegs used must be 100%, if you add an AVI that has bad frames, Nero will error, that is why the AVI should be converted to mpeg before being used by Nero, then if there are any problems, it will show up in TMPGEnc and not during burning.
Its the same with MP3's they should be checked for errors with something like GoldWave. The original post here does not specify what data is being used, so I am guessing its a VCD using a bad mpeg or a bad AVI
If you make a ordinary data disk with Nero, and the files are on your hard drive, then the only error you can have is a buffer underrun, where the data is not being loaded faster enough, and if your burner is not burn proof its going to scrap the disk.
Burn proof writers wont scrap the disks if the data is being read slow, but if the items added are faulty, then Nero cannot be expected to fix them and carry on, but it will try and try.... -
MMMmmmm… Well this has happened to me with all kind of data. Sometimes it have happened with corrupted data like u said but some time I have tried to burn good data I know it isn’t corrupted and it have happened. All I know Data compilation with Nero stops at X% and timer continue. Same data compilation with other Burning software it does it right. I don’t know much about this so I just quitted using Nero for data but I still use it for mp3s (Audio CDs) cuz I like it and it does the job right.
