  1. i'm wondering if it's possible to create a vcd that will play music when inserted into a stand alone cd player and play the video when inserted in a vcd player. i'm calling it an "enhanced vcd" b/c an enhanced cd plays music in a cd player, but the software can be accessed when inserted into a computer. my songs are in mp3 format, but i can always just convert them into wave files. can someone offer me advice on this issue? thanks in advance!

  2. The only way is to make a "cd extra" cd.Your music is on the first session and mpeg/avi on the second. When you insert the disc in a cd player the
player will only recognize the cda(you will have to convert your mp3)and
when you insert the disk in a pc it will only show the video.

    Nope.

You said you want to play this in a standalone vcd player? VCD needs track 1 to be data track where the structure is stored (segments, entrypoints, scandata, etc.), and track 2 onwards to have the sequence items.

Playing it on a PC is different because it's likely to be multiread capable and won't have the same limitation as a standalone player...

  4. I only alluded to the existence of the "enhanced cd" or "cd extra" to help people understand what I wanted to create. I want to make a VCD that plays video when inserted into a VCD/DVD player yet plays CD-audio music when inserted into a cd player. I found out that "the VCD format...can be organised to contain a number of video tracks as well as red book audio tracks and a CDROM track. This means its possible to combine audio that plays back on a standard CD player along with video that plays back on most DVD players and an interactive computer application that can be run on MACs and PCs." I don't need the interactive computer application, just the VCD video and the CD audio. My so-called "enhanced VCD" will house both a video file with its accompanying sound file and CD-audio all in one disc just like an EnhancedCD houses both CD audio and computer application on a single disc.

Thank you Marsmayhem and Moviegeek for the prompt feedback. Sorry if I confused you before, but I hope I've just clarified my problem. Thanks again!!
