Hope someone can help with a problem that has just cropped up...
I can no longer capture any video without my system crashing. I use Virtualdub, with Mjpeg compression. Capture starts ok, but when I click to stop - system hangs. This is in XP Pro. Thinking XP was the problem I did a clean 98 install on a separate drive - exact same problem (with different drivers). Tried the Hauppauge capture program, this crashed as soon as I click capture. Installed AVI_IO, this captured exactly 52 frames before bombing out with an error message.
My Video card is a Radeon 64Mb DDR VIVO, so I decided to have a go at using that to capture, this hung the system during MMC Video in setup.
I then set about a process of elimination to see if any hardware is at fault, swapped Video card - same problem. Removed NIC - no change. Swapped the WinTV Primio FM for my original years old WinTV PCI - same problem.
This leaves only one thing - the Mobo. It appears this problem has appeared after upgrading my Mobo from an ECS K7S5A to a K7S6A, flashed to the latest BIOS - no change. The only conclusion I can come to is that I need to change a BIOS setting - can anyone help me out here??
Sorry for the long post but I wanted to put in as much info as possible.
Cheers

Hmmm...
In situation like this, you install windows (clean install, fresh formated HD) with the minimum possible cards on PC and with the default settings of your motherboard Bios. Then install each card seperate and reboot always.
Also, use PCI slots 2-3-4, not 1-5 (if you have 5 slots).
Set WinTV last on your PC, in slot 3 I think is better.
If you use an internal (PCI) modem, better install it last. I know that Zoom internal modems for example, do many conflicts with WinTV cards
The soundcard is another issue... Try it on many slots, some times it is the reason of many crashes. Expecially if on the win boot, you hearing "strange" sounds. (statering, etc...)
Hope help a bit. -
Thanks Satstorm,
I had already done the clean Win98 Install, & tried the card in different slots. As for other hardware all there is is the 3Com NIC. The sound is onboard. I checked resources & saw it was sharing IRQ 5 with the onboard sound & USB controller. Disabled these in BIOS, but still had same problems. I fell sure it is something in the BIOS I can change. If no-one cane help I think I'll pick up a new K7S5A at the weekend & go back to that, still a great value stable board, not as many BIOS features as K7S6A though (thermal protection, FSB speeds etc)
Cheers

My friend, it is time to go and buy a good cheap PCI soundcard!
Don't expect capture with the built in audio! This is a typical problem... Get a cheap Hercules Game Furtissimo 2 card, or a soundblaster.
Disabling USB (or Raid) ain't gonna help you.
Also, check DMA for HD. Sometimes, we forget this! -
SatStorm,
You did it! I have a box containing all sorts of hardware. In it was an old Soundblaster 128 PCI, stuck this in & Capturing now works fine! Strange, but I used the onboard on the K7S5A with no problems, must be a different chipset on the K76SA.
Thanks again.
CD, Soon to be getting a DVD Writer -
Did you check and make sure that audio capture / recording was linked to line in?
