  1. Can some one tell me which brand(s) of CD-R is most acceptable by stand-alone DVD players? I duplicated a VCD but got different result when I played on different DVD players, some OK some are not playable.

As I know some DVD players can't read certain CD-R media. Thanks for help!

Here's a tip from my own personal experience... burn as SLOW as you can possibly stand... CD-Rs burned at 1x or 2x are typically read better with fewer problems than ones burned at 8x/16x/24x etc... also if you burn with a media capable of burning at higher speeds (but don't) then that helps as well.... as far as a specific brand I don't know...

Yep, Maxell 24X burn at 40X no problems.

Maxell 16X Burn at 24X no problem...

It makes no difference what speed I burn at with the PleXwriter, it always make a very good copy, but this wont be the same with all writers, some of the older ones are no good at fast speeds at all.

You need to test at maximum with good quality disks.

  5. I have had a great deal of success using CD-R's produced by Taiyo Yuden ( sp?) , blue dye , made, obviously , in Japan. As brands these are Fuji's and TDK ( with the latter, you must check that they say made in Japan...NOT Taiwan). These have burned at max speed and played perfectly in both Apex 1100 and 5131 models. Failures using DAO ( VCDEASY after DVD2SVCD , protocols included Memorex and Phillips and TDK from Taiwan ...get Power Calibration failure message on Sony CRX 175E
