Nero S/VCD and HP 9600SI problems - coasters!

Sorry for the cross post, I'm trying to reach a wider audience on this.

I can't get Nero to burn a VCD or SVCD to my HP SCSI 9600SI under Win98 (don't have 2000). I've installed the Adaptec 2930 and 2940 SCSI contollers on two different computers; I've used Nero 5.0.4.8 and 5.5.2.4. I've got firmware rev 1.0a in the 9600. I've updated Adaptec drivers; Nero's aspi drivers, tried multiple media, etc. I get a CD with incorrect space allocated but no files. It will write to my older 7600 IDE CDRW just fine, but it's slow and no 80 minute support.

I notice a 10-15 second pause when hitting the burn tab or selecting VCD/SVCD templates, and Nero issues several dozen access commands to the 9600 in the process(monitored with Adaptec Drive Light). Nero tech support doesn't have an answer; HP says its not their problem.


EZ-CD Creator 5 is installed and works fine; Nero UDF works fine. DirectCD is removed.

VCDImager and CDRwin work fine and make usable (S)VCD's; requires extra steps and HD space. Interesting to note,Nero writes 59MB (Adaptec Drive Light reporting) to 'burn' a 58MB MPG-2 file. Using CDWRIN to burn the VCDImage GUI bin, Drive light reports 121 MB written.

'm ready to abandon Nero but the technical challenge of getting this to work won't let me! I hate walking away from a problem!

Anybody have similiar experiences? If Nero works for you with a HP 9600SI, I'd like to know more about your configuration, please?

Any other CD s/w installed?
9600 f/w level?
SCSI controller and rev level?

I have had this same problem with Nero (all versions after 5) since I got my 9600si. Works great with my old Plextor. Like you, I can use VCDImager and burn VCDs that way with no propblem. This is on a Windows2000 machine, with an Adaptec card.

I uninstalled EZ-CD a while back thinking that was the problem and never reinstalled it.

I had the same problem with the same equipment and software. Upgrade to Nero 5.5.3.5 as the delay with this release is down to about 2.5 seconds, which is a lot better than before.
