  1. I have read that my particular Proline DVD player does not play VCD created on CD-Rs. As this is the case, how do pirate copies of films which to me look like just simple CD-Rs play fine?

What youve read is a general guideline...based on what people have reported...My friend owners manual say's his will play VCDs but not CDR or CDRW.... So does that mean he can only play factory produced VCD....He can't play any VCDs I loan him....Best bet for you...Make a VCD and test it your self.

Those pirated vcd's (ie hong kong/ malaysia) are not on CDR's like we buy from the store. They are pressed just like normal vcd/games/etc are made.

Your player can probably play "cmmercial" vcd's (there are legit ones out there), but not home-made ones.

  4. I have created a VCD using ULEAD - no success on my Proline player. It's fine on my DVD-ROM drive.

Oh well, looks like I'll just have to get a new player which also has DVD (-R/RW) compatability.

    Thanks for the info though...
