I will buy a new computer in the next days and I still havent decided which one I should buy.
I want to use a capture card (maybe with MPEG2 support) and Im not sure if a Athlon 1.4 will do this very well. Maybe I will only have money for a Pinnacle PCTV/DC10+ or a ATI.
Anyone have good and bad experience with this kind of processor? Which mother board should I buy for it? My first intention was a ASUS but in their page I cant see any mobo which support Athlon 1.4
One more question, would I notice a great diference between a PC133 and a DDR memory?
Any input are welcome...

This is a easy one go for the AMD 1.4 Go to http://www.tomshardware.com and you will se.

ok, ok.. Ive already gone there and I also had a look in linuxhardware.org but some video capture cards dont work well with all mother boards so I was thinking if there are any problem with processors too.. -
trust me it's with the motherboards. The processor is great cause I have it and no problem. Just don't get a cheap motherboard. Try major brands like asus, msi, and gigabyte. With Athlon using the Via southbridge I highly recommend not to get SB Live, but any other sound card will do.
My specs:
AMD Athlon 700
Asus A7V133
128mb
SB Live
Radeon 64
PCI 56k ZOOM
toshiba 24x
hp cd-writer i7200
adaptec 2940 u2w via IBM 3450DDRS 4.0GB
Seagate 10.1GB 7200rpm

Intel inside? Idiot outside! Or rather a guy with a slow and expensive CPU. Go for the ultimate! Go for AMD!

absolutely, i agree on both counts. the SB Live is a big problem, as well as crappy motherboards. i also have an Asus A7V133, w/RAID w/o sound, with an Athlon 900. i run an ATI AiW 128 Pro AGP, an Aureal Vortex2 SQ2500 sound card, generic ethernet and modem, as well as an additional CybermailAV BT878 capture card and a Yamaha 724 sound card concurrently. i'm not having any hangups with either capture card, either sound card, or really anything else for that matter. the only issue i had is that one of my generic PC133 ram chips i got last year doesn't work in it. but that was a simple swap for a higher-quality one, and no problems since.
if you have some piece of hardware specifically optimized for pentium it's worth considering, but the compatibility issues do really reside mostly with the motherboards, except seemingly for dazzle. -
If you buy a PENTIUM you should be bitch slapped. First off Buy AMD, yet buy every LAST THING HIGH quality. DOn't bullshit if your serious about upgrading. My system. RUns like you wouldn't Lovein believe.
AMD 266 FSB 1.2 ghz over clocked to 1.4
EPOX 8k7A+
2( 2100 256 CL2.0) Crucial ram. GET 2.5 CL. If your cheap
ON board sound ( EH whatever) Get SB live if you care
Graphics card: Vision TEk 64mb DDR GTS2 ($120 new I might add)
FAT ASS full ANtec tower. AMD APPROVED power supply ( Trust me get the big one)
TWO 60 gig 5400 rpm with RAID
TDK 12X velo cd
Pioneer 16x.
OK so how good it over my old P3 1ghz.
FIrst off Now I rip dvds like a mofo. 8x-13x
Flasking takes 66% less
Tmpeg %33 less time
GAMES: Oh hell yeah they run nice.
HEAT: A LOT. GEt a ton of fans for the ol case.
THE HELL are you looking at me for? I know there is no capture card. I gave that junky AIW pro 128 32mb agp to brother along with a spare 80 gig HD. NOW HE IS my capture whore.
