I have 3 empty slots on my MB.
The new card will arrive soon and is part of the Dazzle Digital Video Creator II setup.

Well if it needs its own interrupt then PCI slot number 3 and 4 if you have ABIT motherboard, don't know if other motherboard is the same. Since PCI slot 1 shares the interrupt with AGP slot. and PCI slot 2 and 5 share the same interrupt.
So which means you can use slot 2 and make sure nothing on slot 5, and slot 3 and 4 are fine. -
I have an abit mb myself and I had a heck of a time trying to get my PCI devices on different IRQ's. As the previouse post said each MB is different but also you should be aware what OS you are running can effect what your IRQ assigments are. Myself I am running WinXP and with ACPI I had a heck of a time trying to get the devices on seperate IRQ's. WinXP seemed to feel putting them all on IRQ 7 was the best thing to do.
No matter what slot I moved things around it always ended up the same. I updated the bios and still no help. Finially I dug through Microsofts tech database and reinstalled XP with ACPI disabled vie modifing a text file in the I386 folder.
After that I just created a seperate hardware profile and then went in and just disabled the stuff I did not need to do capturing. Example after the reinstall my Hauppauge card was sharing an IRQ with my NIC I just disabled the NIC in that hardware profile.
Now everything is running top notch. I no longer have poor performance as well as better video grabs. Anyways I hope this helps sorry if it is a bit wordy. -
I'm running Win98SE, and I don't know which COM ports go with IRQs but here is my IRQ assignments now:
0 System timer
1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard
2 Programmable interrupt controller
3 (free)
4 Communications Port (COM1)
5 YAMAHA DS-XG Legacy Sound System
6 Standard Floppy Disk Controller
7 Printer Port (LPT1)
8 System CMOS/real time clock
9 U.S. Robotics 56K Voice Win
9 YAMAHA DS-XG PCI Audio CODEC
9 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
9 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
10 (free)
11 NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400
11 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
12 PS/2 Compatible Mouse Port
13 Numeric data processor
14 Primary IDE controller (dual fifo)
14 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
15 Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)
15 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
What looks best, guys? -
Can anybody who has installed a Dazzle Digital Video Creator II capture card help me with which slot on my MB to put it in?
Please see IRQ assignments above.
Thanks,
PS---I have NO idea IF card needs it's own IRQ. Do any any other Dazzle Digital Video Creator II owners know? -
Let's put it this way, since we don't know your motherboard we can't really help you. Reply with the exact model of your mobo and if there are specs online we can look and give a recomendation. Normally I suggest you stay away from the first/last slots. Which of the others to use depends on what else the mobo shares the IRQ with. Normally it will share one of the PCI slots with the USB controller. (or internal sound/video/network chipsets if active) So the key is getting a slot that doesn't share.
You COULD put it in any slot, but your best performance will be in a non-shared slot.

I have a Dazzle DVC II and have used it with two mainboards
Asus CUSL2-C P3 815ep based board
Asus P4B - P4 845 based board
I have also moved from Win98se to Win XP Pro OS
I have found that the Dazzle works quite happily when sharing with USB controller
But any available PCI slots should allocate IRQ 10 for you (looking at your IRQ list)
