  2. www.dvdplusrw.org for DVD+R forum.

Both formats have advantages and disadvantages over each others.

    DVD+R
    ____________

    2.4x Writing Speed compared to 2x for DVD-R and 1x for DVD-RW.
Mt. Rainier Support coming up from Microsoft
Great Compatability of DVD-Rom and Set Top DVD Players

    DVD-R
    ____________

Cheaper Media (DVD+R will probably catch up in price by the middle of the summer)
    Already established format
Great Compatability of DVD-Rom and Set Top DVD-Players

Other small differences as well. Bottom line, they are basically the same. People have huge flame wars about the differences, but they are more similar than people think.

    Hope this helps.

  3. don't look at the dvdplusrw site it's total propaganda... dvd-r does have a slightly higher set-top and dvd-rom compatibility

  4. resnullius:

    what tests prove that?

DVD+R has only been out for almost a month already. Nobody has reviewed the drives thouroughly enough to prove that. Give it some time to actually get DVD+R established and then we can start making assumptions.

The main thing to think about is what you'll be using the drive for.

If it's for video production, you'll want the format that is backed by the video industry.

Being listed as ISO approved is a big plus also.

DVD+R(W) is only backed by Philips, as far as key players in the video industry. dvdplusrw.org is maintained by Jorg, if you don't know who Jorg is, head over to www.icdia.org Seems a little wierd to me.

After you read www.dvdplusrw.org you should also visit www.dvdforum.org

  6. Bottom Line:

Whats more compatible (Whether or not the industry backs the disc up or not, if the one the industry doesn't back up is more compatible than the format that the industry backs up, why doesn't it even matter?), How fast are the discs written, and how cheap is the media (I'm talking about quality media, not cheap 1x media). Whether or not who backs up what, the compatibility speaks for itself. Like I stated earlier, it's too early to count DVD+R out. It's only fair to give a format TIME to prove itself, and then you can start saying which one is worse.

Whether you are from the DVD+R side or DVD-R side.... the time to prove which one is better hasn't passed yet.

    Regards.
