  1. When I try and burn a SVCD I have made with TMPGenc, Nero tells me that I can't burn SVCD since I do not have some kinda addon installed.
Is there another proggie that will burn SVCD ?
I have made VCD cds with Nero and watch them in my standalone dvd player.. quality is nice and all, but I still wanna try and make some in SVCD, but can't seem to get them burned in any way.

If Nero reported an error in your mpeg stream and suggested using the mpeg plugin, then you should see what Nero didn't like about your mpeg file (read the error message!). If it doesn't comply with the SVCD specifications it would otherwise burn a probably faulty disk. Check again and see what's wrong.

  3. It didn't like the SVCD format.. tells me that I do not have the plugin for that format and then tells me to go to their homepage where it says that it's not released yet..

That I understood. I would like to know what it said precisely. Nero does tell you what is wrong with your video stream, for example if the frame size, frame rate, audio frequency etc. is within the specifications.

If your mpeg file is wrong for SVCD you don't need to purchase the plugin. You can use other free available MPEG Enconders such as TMPGEnc

I have the same problem with NERO, i.e. I use my ATI AIW to capture mpeg2 with all the SVCD settings correct, then NERO tells me it's non-compliant. I believe the errors are that NERO sees it as an mpeg1 and the audio bitrate is -0-. There is another post on this site that discusses the fact that the file is not actually an SVCD, but an mpeg2 'stream' and outlines what to do about it. I just saw it earlier today and e-mailed the link home, and now I can't find it again here at work. Try searching on 'stream' and 'svcd' and 'nero' all together and I bet it'll come up.

Streaming errors can be easily fixed by opening the MPEG Tools in TMPGEnc. Just go to the cut/merge tab, add the file that has this error. Choose the file type (i.e. SVCD mpeg2), name the new output file, and press start. This works wonders for me, whenever I get this fault.

When you get the menu, simply uncheck "standards compliant."

Nero will not say a word.

  8. When I try to drag the avi file to the Windows in Nero, it tells me I'm missing a MPEG2 codec plug in. When I try to look for this, it says it doesn't exist yet.

No, what he recieved it was I received once I updated to the new version, it's weird. Nero says it cannot locate the MPEG plugin, and prompts you to search or manually locate the plugin. Mine automatically searched for it and found it in some "ahead" (parent company)folder and proceeded after it was found perfectly. Good luck.

  10. If I configure the avi with TMPGEnc. into SVCD format, will Nero be able to burn it without the Plug in?

The MPEG2 plugin is availiable to purchase from Nero at an extra price during the coming months. It's not availiable as such (yet). Nero can only encode avi's into mpeg1 (VCD streams)

    @pier8
In Nero you can have the choice of using a 3rd party plugin for your conversion. If it was this info you found, the standard mpeg1 plugin I don't know - but as such, Nero's own MPEG 2 plugin has not been released.

Encode your avi with TMPGEnc using the SVCD PAL or if you are in the US SVCD NTSC template - use the Guide written by Shochan, which will help you (look under Video articles on this website).

This output file that TMPGEnc generates can then be used in Nero.

How long is your avi file? But in general it takes a while, all depending on what quality you want, what processor etc. you have...

20 hours does seem rather long for your processor type. Make sure your settings i.e. motion search precision is only set to "high quality - slow" and not "highest quality - very slow" - it takes twice as long with no apparent visible advantage.
