  1. I've got the same problem with 5.5. I've got Nero, HP9600SI, win98 and it pauses between menu tabs. 5.0.4.8 pauses only when going to the burn tab. No web folders, no remote mounts.
I've got an additional problem in that SVCD's with nero end up looking empty to Explorer even though it reports used space approximating the expected file size, and Nero reports 2 tracks that take up the appropriate space. Every time. VCD imager/CDRWIN writes the CD OK, but I can't read the resulting mpg file on ANY CDROM on any computer, even though it looks like the right file structure is present. I use write speed 4X or below, and brand labels - TDK, PNY, Fuji, 80 and 74 minute CD's.

I' curious, is anything else on the Adaptec controller? If so, where's the 9600 on the chain?

    Thanks,

    Zot

  2. I'm still going back and forth with Nero's tech support on this. They've admitted that other people have reported having the same problem, but they say they can't duplicate it.

My 9600si is the only device on the chain and it's ID#5. I dual-boot between W2K and Win98SE, and the exact same problem occurs under both. Using the Adaptec Drive Light utility, I've recorded that whenever I change modes or access the Burn tab, Nero sends 30-60 read commands to the drive before it gets the response it's looking for.

I'm not a wizard with SCSI commands, but that seems excessive to me.

  3. Can I ask what firmware rev your 9600 has?

I can't get Nero to burn a VCD or SVCD to my SCSI 9600 under Win98 (don't have 2000). I've installed the Adaptec 2930 and 2940 on two different computers; I've used Nero 5.0.4.8 and 5.5.2.4. I've got 1.0a in the 9600. I've updated adaptec drivers; Nero's aspi drivers, tried multiple media, etc. I get a CD with incorrect space allocated but no files. It will write to my older 7600 IDE CDRW just fine, but it's slow and no 80 minute support.

VCDImager and CDRwin work; requires extra steps and HD space but I thinking I'll abandon Nero.

  4. My f/w is 1.0a, just like yours. I too updated the Nero and Adaptec drivers. I even downloaded Nero help file and did everything recommended there. Still have those damn delays. I can burn just fine, in fact I've just finished burning a 79 minute VCD. The burn tab delays are a real PITA, though.

  5. With the new Nero 5.5.3.5, the delay is now down to 2.5 seconds, a BIG improvement.

And like 15 seconds is a lifetime Right ?

  7. When you have to perform multiple operations and have to wait 15 seconds each time for a response, then yes, it can feel like a lifetime.

Try walking across a room, but wait 15 seconds before taking each step.
