    Hello there,
I'd like to cut the beginning of a 400 mo .mp4 video.
Back in the days with VD1 and used to do the following steps :

I mark the start / end of the segment I want to keep, then I go to :

    >video >compression >XvidMPEG4 Codec >config >1 pass >OK

    >file >queue batch operation >save as AVI (Ctrl+Shift+F7)

Same with ''2 pass'', then >job control >START

But this time there is neither 1pass/2pass neither ''XvidMPEG4 Codec''...
I've three X264vfw... that I don't know what it is...
And if I chose one of them my 400mo video, after the operation is done is 1,5go... And the processing is quite long.

How should I proceed to get aprox. the same size once I get my edited video ? Maybe with a shirter operation ?

    Thanks !!

I think Xvid has fallen out of favour these days.

You can use the H.264/AVC x264 8bit codec:

You can adjust the file size by changing the CRF value. 18 is a good starting CRF. Lower CRFs=larger file sizes/better quality.

You probably know this, but make sure you set up the audio compression before you go to the File>Save Video... screen, otherwise you'll be stuck with PCM, which cannot be put into the MP4 container with VDub2.

    Thanks !!

About the Audio compression : is this way the right way ?

    >video >direct stream copy

    >audio >full processing mode >interleaving >insert value

    >file >save as AVI (F7)

In my experience, VDub won't "Direct Stream Copy" MP4.

For audio, Full processing>Compression>AAC. Go to Configure and set rate to 96Kb/sec (that will be 192kb/sec for two channels):

File>Save Video... set up Video as per my post above (via the "Change" button)

Change the video Save As Type to "MP4 Faststart"

    Then Save.

I can't test at the moment, but I'm sure VDub2 will open VOBs, although AVIDemux will let you cut (on keyframes, not frame-accurate) and then export the VOB to MPG losslessly.

If the VOBs are part of a movie, you'd be better off joining them up into an MPEG and exporting from AVIDemux; then you won't incur a recode.

    My AVIDemux notes here.
