How to use FPS in Subtitle Edit settings

I'm baffled by how the FPS setting works in the Settings screen of SE and how it is activated or saved.
Is it activated by the video FPS? No it seems constant in that. If it is reset to match a video FPS does it reload for that video? Unsure.

What I find in a long process of doing corrections and fine tuning a sub from Whisper is that it seems when I go back the following day, small increments in time stamp need adjustment. Am I imagining things?

The truth is I fail to check what the FPS is set at when doing one of these corrections over many sessions since I cannot do a lot all at once.

Are you referring to FPS in the sync settings?

I'm only familiar with synchronization for time at the Synchronization tab .
This setting is in Options > Settings > General > Default Frame rate.

The source vid is 29.97 and I found that odd since Euro vids from 2005 were all 25 FPS.
Regardless, the one I have is 29.97.

I just wondered when/how the Default Frame rate can change when a new vid is loaded.

As far as I can see if the frame rate is set to the actual video rate before the subs are loaded,
it may help some of the subtitle time adjustments to be slightly more accurate (milliseconds of accuracy)

It seems, as you mention, that if an actual video is loaded in the program it would use that instead of the default setting.
The default settings seems to be there for the use case where a video file is not loaded, but the subs only.

After watching an SRT load more closely I see that the FPS stays where I had it previously.
I matched both just in case. Yes there are small millisecond variations (at least from my looking at it) to get best possible sync with the video. I do all this manually line by line and add descriptive features where it seems to look good (Feet Stomping) (audience laughs) Adding the musical clef to indicate music or singing etc.

This does not help explaining what the function is for if it is independent of the video. To my mind it can only make something worse. Regardless they seem to be working on the program all the time.
