  4. yt-dlp can download from BBC even with a vpn active (I think max is 720p though)

    but the max res I got was 1280x720, just wonder how did you get the 1080p, if you can share that info I would be grateful because I wanna get the Mo Salah video and max I got was 720p.. any help would be great and thanks stew for helping others

  6. the easiest is probably using get_iplayer: get_iplayer --quality fhd "URL"

    personally, i use a modified version of yt-dlp.

    Thanks man, get_iplayer did the job perfectly.
    wonder if this modified version of yt-dlp is publicly available or its ur own

    its really a wonder to see other devs tweaks and workarounds and try to understand the logic behind their thinking

  8. it's just a small "hack", modification of yt-dlp's bbc extractor that i found in the old youtube-dl's discussions on github. it basically hardcodes some things, which means it'll fail if 1080p is not available. some older videos are only available in 540p and some web-only streams are in 720p. when you add this to yt-dlp and compile a new version, you can't update it as normal, so you have to keep two versions and only use this for bbc (until there's new features in core yt-dlp you want to use, or some bbc extractor updates)

    since get_iplayer works, and fetches more metadata than yt-dlp, it's the better choice in most situations.
