  1. I have an ati card that captures mpg files from my vcr. It will also capture avi files but they are too large. I want to edit those mpg files (tweak the start and stop points) and save to mpg files for use on a vcd or svcd disc. (At this point, I don't want to burn yet but want the files to preview.) I then should end up with 5 to 10 mpg movies. I then want to burn a vcd or svcd with a menu that will let me select which file to play and, when it plays, to return me to the menu to make another selection
    .
I have tried Pinnacle studio v.7 but it only imports avi files, not mpg files. I've tried ulead dvd workshop but it won't save the mpg files. It will only burn the cd or save an image to burn. I've tried adobe premier v.6 but it didn't do something (I forget what it wouldn't do but it would not import mpg or export mpg or somthing I've listed that I want to do.)

Is there one program that will do all the above? Will I have to use different programs?
Remember, I don't want to do complex stuff, just simple import, edit, make a menu and, at some point, burn.

  2. For splitting your MPEG files, you can use TMPGENC (Tools section)

WinonCD 3.8 and WinonCD Power Edition 5.0, previously under Cequadrat, now Roxio products, would allow you to make menus and burn the resulting VCDs

I guess a combination of the 2 might be a simple and efficient solution.
