    read this.

Roxio has commited monopolistc practices. I attempted to locate the best burner but left EZ CD installed. None of the burners worked. On my laptop, I removed all traces of EZ CD and now Nero works like a breeze.

Roxio, I want my $100 back. Your software has made more coasters than [a properly working] Nero.

so let this be a warning. You must remove both EZ CD and Direct CD.

  2. duh, when you install Nero it tells you to uninstall Direct CD (you don't need to uninstall EZ CD). If you don't your computer won't even boot up Windows sometimes forcing you to go into safe mode and uninstalling DirectCD

I took notice and did just that.

However, Nero only worked after I removed everything related to EZ CD Ceator.

    I don't like this.

U gotta get rid of more than Direct CD

And lemme tell u, Direct CD sux. I have made more coasters with that than any other coasters. And these r high quality Verbatium Metal Azo disks.

  4. I used to had all three working on one machine (Win98SE).
If you know what you are doing and read all the thread about this issue on this forum, you should be OK.
Since then, I removed Nero - it did not work out for me...

EZCD screwed up everything pre-Roxio. Even though Nero says you have to uninstall DirectCD for Nero to work, you really do in fact have to uninstall everything related to EZCD, then reboot a few times before you get your life back.

EZCD was just about the worst purchase I've ever made related to my computer. Although I'm not poor, I still kick myself every time I walk by the Best Buy rack with EZCD products taking up all that shelf space from everything else that no doubt works better.

I'd give that EZCD away ... but I don't hate anyone that much.

  7. I have also had problems with EZCD creator. I had the 5.0 Platinum version, and I think out of 10 CD's I tried to burn, only one actually made it. I got rid of it and went with nero. It works really well and I am quite pleased with the results. I would ditch the EZCD altogether. I did manage to get both working on the same computer, but EZCD still had problems burning discs, before and after Nero was installed.

  8. I've never tried Nero. But I've used EZ version 4. It has always performed flawlessly on Audio and Data CDRs. I just upgraded to version 5. I'm doing VCDs with that. No problem so far.

The only problem I've had with Adaptec/Roxio was with Direct CD. I'd dump a bunch of stuff to CD ... no problem. Then later I'd put more stuff on the CD. Failure ... and loss of some of the previous data. So I disabled Direct CD. That was with EZ 4. I can't even get Direct CD working at all with EZ 5.

But that's okay. I don't trust Direct CD anyway. I'll just stick to making Audio/Data/Video CDs.

Verbatium has the highest quality metal azo disks.

I also purchase fine CD-R's by Memorex, TDK(not anymore) and Imation. (I luv the gold color)

their's something about a name like Metal Azo that expresses quality to me.

    Listen you guys,
Nero will cause as much trouble in relation to Direct CD as Direct CD will to any other burning program. Why? Because Nero installs its "own" Direct CD clone - called "InCD". When you install Nero, it installs InCD packet writing software. This software then takes over the CD burner registry files when it is used, so as to format the disk when using InCD. If there is another Packet writing software eg Direct CD, it does the same, but it formats the disk differently. Both registry files will be installed, any they will argue over who has control of the burner, even when using normal burning programs. So Nero will do just the same to any burning program that has packet software, as Direct CD does to Nero (or actually Nero is doing to Direct CD). Regarding ending up with coasters, why are you all using DirectCD with CDR's and not CDRW's!!!! Packet writing has no real advantage over normal burning when using non-erasable disks. And why would you want to use it, anyway - it slows your burner down, both on the burn, and also when you read back the disk.

By the way, Nero has a special file on their website to download that disables the registry files for other burners you have installed, at startup - you choose which burner you want to load. This is to avoid this whole problem

  12. I have EZCD and Nero installed without a problem. It may be because I installed EZCD Creator without installing direct CD, so it was never on my system to start with. I never used it anyway.

Speaking of Roxio. A couple of months ago I signed up to be in a consumer opinion group for a research company. Turns out it was sponsored by Roxio.

There were about 10 people in the group and they asked us about how we use our CD writer and what features we look for and such. I was the only one in the group who made VCD's but every one else wanted to know more about them when I mentioned it.

I told the researcher that I pretty much use Nero all the time now and had no plans to upgrade to EZCD Delux 5 . I told them the reason was because EZCD Creator did not make SVCD's and there were not enough new features to justify the price.

It was nice to let them know what I thought - and I got $100.00 for my time to boot.

  13. NERO is perfect for VCDs and SVCDs.
But I trust EZ CD for Data and Audio.
Thay both work fine together when you do NOT install
    DIRECT CD!
