I recently discovered that placing standard Avery (and others) CD labels on HP DVD+R disks seems to render them unplayable on my 2 set-tops. Doug (from this forum) was kind enough to point out that he thinks that placing labels on DVD-/+R's causes problems generally.
Is this the general consensus. Is it a given that DVD-/+R's should be left unlabelled? Any tips?

Well, I posted separtely to see if anyone knew of acid-free / archive quality labels. The Apple DVD-R that I use recommend against ANY kind of labeling including writing on the disk!
I contacted Avery to see if their labels were acid-free etc, and they said they are not, and recommended that I follow the manufacturer's instructions, ie. don't label.
The Fellowes / Neato information indicates that the label can "improve the balance" of the CD. No information on the material longevity.
So I guess, I'm still not sure. I like to label my VCD / DVDs but I would like to think I could still play them in 10 years like my old video tapes.
