  2. You can fix scratched windows with several DIY methods using common household products. Toothpaste, baking soda, or clear nail polish can fill in the scratches. You can also try metal or glass polish. However, using too much polish will cause additional damage.

A piece of wet fine-grit sandpaper can be used to remove deeper scratches. Make sure to always keep it wet, and follow up with a rubbing compound. Start with the scratch and then blend it in. Determine the direction of the grain and start sanding in one direction only, following the brushed pattern.

For fine surface scratches, a commercial-grade metal cleaner could be enough on its own. It's always better to use the cleaning product with a microfiber cloth and wipe with the grain, not against it. Weiman makes stainless steel wipes that come with a handy microfiber cloth.

  4. It's a losing battle, because a cutting polish like T-Cut can do it, but the polished area will be shinier than the surrounding area.
If the surfaces are highly polished this may be fine, but if they are the normal matt black that is common, you end up chasing your tail. Matting down is not so easy.... not to get an even match.

I've used T-Cut (after light wet and dry sanding) to turn my Epson scanner lid, and turn-table cover back to near new, but they were both highly polished surfaces.

    This.

The paint is very thin and can't be buffed out*. I had a Sony SL-2000 and when the paint started rubbing off, I used rubbing alcohol to remove all the paint. That's how thin and weak the paint layer is.

*The reason the paint on cars can be buffed out is that it's multiple coats, with a clear coat on top. Buffing removes the clear coat and some of the paint underneath.
