TMPGenc - grabbing settings from a (s)vcd or mpeg file

Hi all.
I have read many times that fellow VCDhelp uses are able to get the 'encoding' settings from an existing (s)vcd or mpeg file. I have done this in Video Studio 6, how is it doen with TMPGenc? Can it take all the settings it needs to encode with the exact same template settings as the source?

Hi,
when you say encoding settings, you mean resolution etc , I assume. If not please clarify.

Using TMPGEnc you can go to the settings, advanced and clip frame option. In arrange setting it will display the resolution and aspect ratio. I prefer to use VirtualDub for this (open file and go to file, properties).

What i mean is like in Videiostudio where you can click on a existing mpeg and it take the setting/properties of its encoding. So in tmpgenc you would be able to grab the settings automatically and save it as a template. Any clues?

I don't think you can do that using TMPGEnc. You can of course create a template. What kind of settings are you interested in?
The main settings you can extract from a MPEG are things like resolution (ie 352x288), frame rate (ie 25), bitrate (1500bps), audio frequency(224 Hz). If you are encoding VCD then all these are fixed (the values I just gave are for PAL VCD). If you are doing SVCD then most are fixed except bitrate. Doing XVCD most are flexible but I have no experince there.
