I haven't been able to get Dazzle DVD Complete to author a DVD using a valid DVD format 352x480 MPEG2 file. When I add the file, DVD Complete indicates that it is an invalid DVD format. Ulead DVD Moviefactory has no problem accepting the same file. I would use Moviefactory but it can't author a DVD from an MPEG2 file that is larger than 4GB.

Any recomendations on a resonably priced <$1000 authoring program?

  2. I was looking for this as the perfect DVD authoring program but I too make most of my DVD's with 352x480. Oh well.

Have you tried the latest beta yet?

There are two issues regarding the 4GB limit. The first, which I think you refer to, relates to whether MovieFactory can capture video that results in a file size in excess of 4GB (I believe it can do this). The second issue, which I raised, is that MovieFactory doesn't accept previously encoded MPEG2 files that are in excess of 4GB. My work around is to encode multiple MPEG2 files, then MovieFactory will accept them even though their total size is greater than 4GBs.

  6. Movie factroy does indeed accept 4gb mpeg2 plus files under win2000, problem is getting to accurately set the time line for chapter stops is what will make it not show you the entire timeline, for that reson I switched to DVD Movie Factory and applied the beta synch patch.

DVD Complete is accepting MPEG2 files in excess of 4GB however it does not accept files that are 352x480. Here is DVD Complete's technical support's response regarding this issue:

    ---------------------------------------
    Hello!

Unfortunatly 352 x 240 is not a valid dvd file. Please click on the below link to view all DVD standard settings:

Title: What are the differences between DVD, VCD and SVCD

Standard DVD resolution is 720 X 480. 352 x 240 is standard VCD resolution. In order to import those files as DVD files you will need to re-encode them as 720 x 480. In addition, DVD Complete will also allow the import of VCD mpeg 1 352 x 240 files.

If you have any futher questions, please feel free to contact us at any time.

    Thank you!!

Pretty sad; a DVD authoring company that doesn't know that 352x480 is a valid DVD format.

  8. Well, now I'm back to not having a single authoring program I can use. I don't need 720x480 for VHS transfers. 352x480 interlaced is just perfect.

All my VHS tapes will continue to wait....

    Damn Dazzle.

    Hi there,

According to DVDit! PE "Preparing files for DVD.pdf" file, valid DVD video streams for NTSC are:

    MPEG-1 - 352x240 (progressive)
    --------------------------------------
    MPEG-2:

    352x240 (progressive)
    352x480 (interlaced)
    704x480 (interlaced)
    720x480 (interlaced)

    Regards.

  10. I'm willing to buy almost anything if it works. How is DVDit PE to use? How is the latest Videopack 5.1? I had version 4.0 for my VCD creation, and I liked it.

  11. I got a reply from somebody at dvdcre8.com (Dazzle's DVD Complete leg). XesDeeni, I sent him a dump of most of your post!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

NTSC 352x480 (1/2 DV) is most certainly a DVD-compliant resolution. Most of the product links you provided are to Mpeg encoders, not authoring solutions. The authoring solutions you provided links to have price tags in the thousands of dollars. DVD Complete has a price tag of $99.

We will support 352x480 in a future professional edition of DV Complete. Sorry we are not able to support your needs with this consumer-level authoring product.

    Joe

    Mikerios you say

... for that reson I switched to DVD Movie Factory and applied the beta synch patch....

I'm having great problems using >4Gb files in DMF. What do you mean by "beta synch patch" ?
If this is some way of getting DMF to work with bigger files I would be very interested.

  13. They have a beta synch patch ( that's what they call it ) for DVD Workshop as it has known ( as does DVD Movie Factory ) audio synch issue with bitrates over 256, but it seems to work great as my last project was 4.22Gb at 384bits on the audio and I had no problem setting up chapters, menus and getting it to the vob stage intact with no synch issues at all. I burnt the vobs in Nero 5.5.8.0 and playback is flawless. Only after playback confirmation do I delete the vobs and the mpeg2 file to make room for my next rip. DVD Movie factory can be a bear if the file is big (not sure where the filesize breakpoint where making chapter stops becomes a hassle, that why I use DVD Workshop now ). I have tried the patch for it and it does correct synch issue.

  14. Valnar,

    So DVD Complete...isn't.

And it seems that supporting this mode would require quite a bit of work on their part. I can see why changing an entire bit in their .IFO files wouldn't be worth making customers out of us.

But hey, they are making it easier on those of us that are trying to whittle down the DVD authoring products we want to purchase.
